Room Descriptions

A four–tatami mat front room and six–tatami mat space are separated by fusuma sliding doors.

The windows are all handmade with polished nami-uchi glass, a traditional art that is increasingly hard to come by in the Reiwa era. This wavy glass gives the courtyard a soft appearance, creating a unique atmosphere in the room.

Beautifully lit by the morning sun, the room’s windows look down onto the courtyard from the second floor. Hibiscus-shaped flowers bloom from the mukuge trees in July and August. Then the leaves change colour in autumn, followed by the winter blooms of the shishigashira camellias from November to February.

Moon-shaped handles on the fusuma. The decorations are styled after the Katsura Imperial Villa, a palace said to be the pinnacle of Japanese architecture.

Exquisitely designed with nageshi timber, the perspective created makes a small space appear larger.
